If you're wanting to download and save a YouTube video directly to your laptop I've got good news – it's easy.

You don't need any fancy apps, just the link to the YouTube video and the website I'm about to show you.

Get the YouTube link

Before we can download the YouTube video, you've got to get the YouTube video link or URL.

This is website address and will look something like this:

You can find it in the address bar on your browser like Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Edge.

Here's where the link is on Chrome:

Once you've found the link, copy it by highlighting it with your mouse and right clicking -> copy.

Or highlight it with your mouse and press ctrl + c at the same time.

Setup The Video Downloader

Now you've got the YouTube link to the video you want to download, we'll have to go to a website that will save the video from YouTube and let you download it.

There are tons of different sites that offer to download YouTube videos, some are awesome, some are full of viruses and malware.

The best one to use is this –

Go ahead and paste the YouTube video URL into the box on the homepage. You can do that by right clicking in the box that says “Insert YouTube URL Here or by left clicking and then pressing Ctrl + V

Download The Video

You're almost there!

Press the Generate Link button.

The website will get the video and make it downloadable. You might have to wait a few minutes for it to be ready.

Watch out for ads! Be on the lookout for ads popping up, it's free to do this so don't pay anyone anything.

Here's what the screen looks like when you are waiting for the download to start:

Wait for the countdown to reach zero. Once it does you'll see a button to download the video like this:

Click that button and you should see a file start to download – that's your YouTube video.

You'll see another advertisement, but if you look at the bottom of your screen you should see a download like this:

Once it downloads, click on the video and it should load up in a video player like Windows Media Player.

It's really easy to download a YouTube video to your laptop if you follow the steps above.

Be careful not to click on ads and download anything that looks suspicious as it could harm your computer.

I tested the YouTube video converter I demonstrated with for this article and there wasn't any viruses, just a few ads which isn't bad. The YouTube video downloaded clearly.
